We will deliver the Government’s programme of financial incentives to farmers and land managers for the protection and enhancement of the natural environment.
Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund
The levy on aggregate extraction was introduced in April 2002; part of the money raised by the levy finances the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF). The aim of ALSF is to address the environmental and social costs of aggregate extraction through delivery of environmental improvements, minimising the demand for primary aggregates and reducing the local effects of aggregate extraction.
Natural England has an ALSF allocation of £3.8 million for this financial year 2008-2009, to grant aid projects which will reduce the effects of aggregate extraction on nature conservation, landscapes, access, informal recreation and communities. For more information see 2008/2009 Grant Scheme
Natural England’s 2008/2009 ALSF Grant Scheme will reopen for applications from Monday 15th December. We have a limited amount of funding still available for projects completing by 20th March 2009.
Please note: At this time we are seeking applications for this financial year only. We aim to launch the scheme for FY 2009/10 and FY 2010/11 in mid January. Full details of future application windows will be published shortly.
Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Action Fund – New Launch
The Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Action Fund aims to help achieve the UK Government’s commitment to halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010 through supporting the recovery of priority species and habitats in England.
Between 2006 and 2008 nearly £4 million was allocated to 34 projects across all nine regions. These projects covered a variety of aims including direct enhancement of biodiversity, engaging people in conservation work, and raising awareness among key stakeholders, schools, community groups and the general public.
The scheme has now been launched again with up to £5 million to award over the next three financial years. For further information on the new scheme criteria and how to apply please see 2008 to 2011 Grant Scheme.
